Church Copper Candles

The Problem

These pieces had endured over 160 years of harsh coastal weather. The copper was heavily corroded, and several of the original caps had been lost to the elements.

What We Did

We began with a deep chemical clean to strip away decades of oxidation and assess the structural integrity of each piece. Using traditional metalworking techniques, we hand-beat new copper discs into a dome-shaped former to recreate the missing caps. Once the new caps were silver soldered into place, the candles were polished to a mirror finish. To ensure they stand up to the sea air for years to come, we applied four coats of high-grade marine (ships) lacquer for maximum protection.
